My family and friends know I love reading patchwork quilts. Yes, I said read! They tell stories as exciting as any novel. I can stand in front of a display and gawk like others do at art galleries. The countless patterns and colors ignite my imagination. The intricate stitches winding over the quilt top sometimes vary from one square to another, depending on how many ladies sewed it.
Can you imagine the patchwork stories swapped over these pieces?
In the next novel I’m writing, the ladies gather for a quilting bee in one scene. I’m researching popular patterns in the 1910s. Wow! As I look through them, I’m both awed and green with envy.
Especially since I can’t sew to save my life.
Patchwork quilts tell a story. In fact, dozens of stories are usually woven into them. One yellow patch belongs to a baby’s dress. A blue corner is from Grandpa’s Sunday shirt. Grandma’s dress is a floral strip. So many stories.
A snapshot of places, sights, textures, and memories our loved ones leave behind.
As a child, I remember sprawling across my mama’s crazy quilt and investigating the patches. Every single one whispered a story. To this day I can look at it and discover a patch I never noticed. Like finding buried treasure.
Do you love reading patchwork quilts? I’d love to hear about it.

Wow! These pics are amazing! I have a friend who is quilting a piece for me now to commemorate my love of writing. Like you, I adore “the love” that goes into them. One MORE thing we have in common. ❤️
