Vicky Sluiter: Thursday’s Featured Author

Happy Thursday, y’all! Vicky Sluiter is here today! I’m very excited for Vicky because her first children’s book, Oliver’s Moving Day, will be released soon! I can’t wait to read it with my son!

Congratulations and welcome, Vicky! Tell us about a few of your favorite things.

Your favorite:

1.      Color – Pumpkin Orange. Fall is my favorite!

I love fall too, and I’m especially looking forward to it this year after such a hot summer! I can smell the pumpkin spice already!

2.      Restaurant – I don’t have one. I love to try new places!

So do I. I recently went to Abuelo’s Mexican Resturant, and it was amazing!

3.      Movie – You’ve Got Mail. The movie starts with New York in the Fall. Have I mentioned it’s my favorite time of year?

One of my all-time favorite movies. If you get a chance, watch the original one with Jimmy Stewart called The Shop Around the Corner.

4.      Book – The Widow of Larkspur Inn by Lawana Blackwell. Julia faces devastation with strength and humor. I love the Victorian time period and who doesn’t enjoy a later in life romance?

We must be related somehow! I have the hardback set of that series on my bookshelf. I can read those over and over.

5.      Dish – BBQ Ribs. I have an excuse to get deliciously messy!

Yummy! I’m always on the lookout for good barbecue.

6.      Vacation Spot – The Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It’s so beautiful with the Great Lakes (Lake Superior is my favorite but don’t tell Lake Michigan), trees, lighthouses, deer, and bears.

Sounds heavenly. I’ve never been that far north, but I would love to visit that area.

7.      Hobby – Reading lets me travel places I’ll never be able to go, I meet people I’ll never be able to really meet, and I learn new things, all from my favorite chair.

Absolutely! You speak my language!

8.      Place to unwind – I love to unwind in my backyard. Trees, sunshine, and a breeze, along with a good book and a glass of iced tea make my soul happy.

My yard is my happy place too. 

Vicky Sluiter has had a passion for reading since she was four years old. She started with the back of cereal boxes, and moved on to everything else including books, magazines, and T-shirts. As a wife and mom, Gramma to five boys, and the proud owner of a bearded dragon named Elliott, she has learned what boys like Oliver want to read.
