I love a good cowboy story, don’t you? One of Shannon’s books caught my eye in Walmart, so I plucked it from the shelf and put it in my cart. Later, after I started reading it, I discovered with delight that Shannon was from Arkansas…just like me! Also she was a preacher’s wife. Even better because I was a preacher’s kid! I took a chance and sent her an email, not really expecting an answer. (Sorry Shannon!) I mean, why would she take the time to answer me?
But she did. Not only that, she also introduced me to the Arkansas chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers, a wonderful, fun group of ladies who welcomed me with open arms and blessed me with friendship.
I’m excited to have Shannon here today to share some of her favorite things! I love this because we get to know authors a little more personally. Be sure to answer her question at the end of the post to be entered for a giveaway!
Shannon, what is your favorite:
Color: Thistle. It used to be in the Crayola crayon box. It’s a pinkish lavender color.
Oh my! What a lovely name for a crayon! Pink or lavender is a color I never get tired of.
Restaurant: Olive Garden. I pretty much always have Shrimp Carbonara.
Yummy! Olive Garden is the go-to spot for my mom and me. It’s our happy place!
Movie: Seven Year Hitch. It’s a sweet little Hallmark movie that I just love. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it.
My t.v. stays on Hallmark most of the time, and my DVR is jam packed with their movies. One of my favorites is The Christmas Cottage. I’m hoping to see one of yours on Hallmark someday!
Book: Driftwood Lane by Denise Hunter. I think. I love her books so it’s really hard to just pick one.
After reading the story line on Amazon, I got it on my Kindle. Amazon 1-click is a dangerous thing!
Dish: Shrimp Caprese. Olive Garden used to have it. The Carbonara is yummy, but the Caprese was better.
When I go to Olive Garden, I usually get the lasagna, not to mention the salad and bread sticks!
Vacation Spot: Texas or Georgia. We have family in both states. I’m not the go on vacation to some place just for fun. I like seeing family. I guess because when I was a kid, my dad built houses, so we followed the housing booms. Our vacations were always to Arkansas to see both sets of my grandparents until we moved back when I was twelve.
Both places are very nice to visit. Moody Gardens in Galveston is so fun! My favorite vacation spot is the Arkansas Ozarks and Kentucky.
Hobby: I’m very crafty, so I like making things with my Cricut. I also sew home interior items like curtains and bedspreads. But not clothes, they frustrate me.
I wish I could sew! My grandma could sew and crochet beautifully. I love doing crafts, but they don’t always love me, if you know what I mean. 😊
Place to unwind: My screened in back porch. I call it my outdoor office since it’s right outside my office.
The perfect outdoor office! My front porch isn’t screened, but I love to unwind there. At least until the mosquitoes shoo me away!
Song: The Old Rugged Cross. I’m a traditional hymn kind of gal.
So am I! The words to that song are profound and moving. One of my favorites is The Old Account Was Settled.

Sweetheart Reunion: Hearts Reunited in Cowboy Country
Reuniting with the Cowboy by Shannon Taylor Vannatter
The Cowboy Next Door
A charming cowboy moving in next door shouldn’t be bad news. But veterinarian Ally Curtis knows Cody Warren—she’d never forget the boy who left her when she needed him most. Cody is doing everything he can to show his beautiful neighbor he’s not the wild bull rider he once was, from helping her find homes for her beloved strays, to protecting her when her business is threatened. But Cody has a secret that keeps him from fully reaching out. Yet as they continue to work together to promote her shelter, he can’t keep himself from hoping that Ally might have a home for him…in her heart.
Rocky Mountain Cowboy by Tina Radcliffe
A Cowboy’s Second Chance
The last person cowboy Joe Gallagher thought he’d see on his ranch was high school sweetheart Rebecca Anshaw Simpson. Twelve years after she married another man, she’s back as his physical therapist. But healing his body is nothing compared to guarding his heart from the woman he never forgot. There’s much the single mom would rather forget, but Becca won’t let regret and a surly rancher get in the way of her job and the chance to start over with her little girl. She has only a few weeks to make peace with her past. But Becca never expected she’d fall all over again for her first love.
Sonnetta Jones says
I would love to crochet but I cannot follow the instructions from my teachers. I have this beautiful dream in my head of making a blanket. I do not know why it is so difficult. Some people say it may be because I am left handed and my teachers are righthanded. I do not know.
Candace West says
So would I, Sonnetta. You might could search on YouTube for a teacher that shows left handed students how to crochet.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
I used to crochet Sonnetta. I made sweaters and baby blankets. I even made a king size afghan once. But once I started writing, I don’t have time anymore. The most valuable lesson I learned about reading crochet patterns is to read from comma to comma, do that and then read from the next comma to comma and do that and so on. But I’m right handed and my teacher was right handed.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
Hey Candace, thanks for having me on your lovely lavender website.
Candace West says
Lol…You’re welcome, Shannon! I wish I could’ve found Thistle when I was choosing colors! 😉
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
There’s a hint of it on the swirl on the left toward the top 🙂
Candace West says
Ah, I see it! Very pretty. Looks like I have some Thistle after all! 😊
Merry says
My favorite place to read is on my front porch in the summer or at the beach. I also love reading in my cozy recliner.
Candace West says
All wonderful places! Good luck on the drawing!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
I have a screened in back porch outside my office, Merry. I like to read and write there.
SARAH TAYLOR says

Candace West says
Two of my favorite places to read are my recliner or on my front porch. So glad you stopped by, Sarah! Good luck!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
I love reading in bed. I have a comfy wingback recliner in the living room I like to read in too. Our TV is in the family room, so it’s quiet in the living room and a reading nook.
Jenny McLeod Carlisle says
I actually read while riding my stationary bike every morning. Makes the time and the miles fly by! But, my favorite, favorite place is on a beach under an beach umbrella. Ocean breezes, warm sunshine, Ahhhh!
Candace West says
Sounds very relaxing plus I love the sound of the waves! I’m glad you dropped by, Jenny!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
I used to try to read on my treadmill, Jenny. But I learned I can’t walk and read at the same time unless I do it really slow. And even then the story didn’t sink in.
